This town lies 35 km away from Suceava, on Moldova River, between the afforested heels of Obcina Mare, Obcina Voronet and Obcina Humor, and it represents an important centre of exploration and wood industrialization.
The glade full of vegetation lying at the mouth of the Humor River was mentioned for the first time in documents as far back as Stefan the Great’s reign. The locality is dominated by a mild climate with fresh air. The Etnographic Museum presents a rich collection of items that reveal the diversity of the household occupations and the popular costumes belonging to the people from the basins of the rivers Dorna and Humor, as well as from Campulung.
Points of Interest:
Voronet Monastery. It lies 4 km away from Gura Humorului and it was one of Stefan the Great’s foundations (1488). The external frescos dating Petru Raraes’ reign still keep their freshness, being famous for their shinning colours(the all-known “blue” of Voronet). The frescos point out mural paintings that astonish through the numerous laic elements, through the realism the characters are presented, characters that are inspired from the people living around the area. The frame of the frescos are nothing more than beauties of the natural landscape.
Humor Monastery. The monastery was built by the chancellor Teodor Bubuiog in 1530 and is situated in Humor, location that is 6 km away from Gura Humorului. The characteristic element of the monastery is the open hallway. The external painting is important, because it presents “The Siege of Conastantinopol”. It is realized by Toma from Suceava in 1535, the dominating colour of the painting being red.
